Virtual Summer of SUCCESS

Parents are invited to register their middle schoolers to complete web-based math, reading and writing from any computer, keep track of their activities on their google doc Activity Log, and earn prizes.

When you register, you and your child will receive access to a google doc Activity Log which your child will use to record reading, writing, math and other fun activities.  The google doc will be shared with the parent(s), Summer of SUCCESS 2.0 staff, and your child’s “virtual coach,” if applicable. Parents will be added as their own child’s coach so they can monitor all activities. You are encouraged to consider “coaching” your own children and/or your children’s friends. If a student has a Big Brother, Big Sister or Youth Horizon mentor, that person is welcome to be a “coach” and the $20 suggested donation is waived.

Your child will work at his/her own pace on Khan Academy math activities, Reading Plus, and other suggested reading (and watching/listening), ask an adult the “Question of the Day” and write about various things on the Activity Log.

As volunteer coaches become available, they will be assigned to 2-4 students who have indicated an interest in having one.  Coaches will check the student’s Activity Log (google doc) and Khan Academy for progress and write notes of encouragement about once a week.

A donation of $20 is suggested for participation in Virtual Summer of SUCCESS.  Checks can be made payable to Success in the Middle and mailed to the Wichita Community Foundation, 301 N Main, Suite 100, Wichita, KS 67202. Online donations can be made by clicking here.
